The best laid plans of mice and men...
When holiday plans go awry...

We - Eric and I - had promised ourselves that we would go bush camping as soon as Eric was strong enough after his brush with mortality a few weeks past.... so we set off for two wonderful weeks in the middle of September...anticipating that we would be able to sit beside the river at Rocky Pool - east of Carnarvon - to soak up the sun and rest and recuperate.

We made it as far as Carnarvon....

On our way back to GeraldtonUnfortunately our car decided to misbehave and we had to have it, and ourselves, transported from Carnarvon to Geraldton on the back of a truck for repairs- That's another story entirely!.

So we had the privilege of staying at the Geraldton Sunset Beach caravan park for just on a week - without our wonderful Landrover.  It wasn't really a trial ...but the wind blew and we experienced several nights of wind and rain that truly tested our tent and our ability to keep cabin fever at bay.  Thank goodness for our kindles,  the camp kitchen and local shop!

However all was not lost... as soon as the car was roadworthy...we were back on the road ourselves... south...to wonderful Lake Indoon - just west of Eneabba for 3 fantastic nights of camping.  Then it was on to the monastic town of New Norcia for a little bit of luxury and splendidly hot showers, then back to Perth to catch up with friends.

If you are interested I've included below, a small article on one of the very special places we found on our travels.

In the mean time, Chris, Laura and the crew have been busy at Moon Haven catching up with soap making and filling up the shelves with all the new season goodies - apparently some of the new fairies are amazing and our new Blokes Brick soap pack is proving to be very popular.

Peppermint and Eucalyptus never smelt so good...
REjuvamont Natural Handcrafted SoapContinuing our Minty theme our Soap of the Month is the wonderfully refreshing Rejuvamint soap.
This uplifitng and invigorating soap is fantastic for those who find florals too strong and prefer to use something that opens up the sinuses as well as the mnd.
We use both Peppermint  (Mentha avensis) and Australian Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus radiata sp. Australiana) essential oils in this handcrafted soap to create the ultimate wake-me-up bathing experience.

the day on a bright note" soap to use in the mornings.
We even have some mums who swear it's the only thing that helps to get their kids switched on and ready for school each day.
With all those lovely menthol rich oils we find that when using Rejuvamint, the steam in the shower brings out all the sinus clearing properties and helps to wash away the cobwebs. "Hi Chris,

 I love your products!

Especially, the vanilla body butter and the anti-aging system!

Actually, the system is the best from what I have ever tried before, I really do not care about expensive cosmetics anymore, as your products are natural and they work!

I am so happy I found your little shop by Margaret River:) Yesterday I recommended the anti-aging serum to my friend as I know it will work on her too. Really, there is no comparison to your products. They are the best!

I love your products!

Regards,  Svetlana"

Quiet spaces...

Why we need magical places and people in our lives
Life can be pretty confronting at times. Not only do we all deal with the everyday stress and strainCamping at Lake Indoons of living in our modern world...but occasionally... we get hit for a six.
At first it's easy enough to gather yourself up after being knocked down ...you just pick yourself up...dust yourself off and shrug off the experience...getting on with life.
Then for some of us  it happens again and again... and at some point it just isn't so easy to set yourself up again and get back to living the life we wanted and expected.
This is where we need to recharged our batteries... take time out to reflect, learn from our experiences and begin to appreciate the good things in your life again ... no matter how small or insignificant.
This why it is so important to find those special places where you can go to reflect, recharge and discharge all your worry and angst.
My Newest Magical Space
Eric and I planned our recent retreat just for this purpose.. to sit and reflect on the good things in our life and to find ways to reconnect with ourselves and our ways of living on this earth.
But as you read above. all did not go to plan.
Circumstances conspired to make it difficult to retreat ... and I must admit that I did begin to despair I'd not get the chance to recharge.
That was until we discovered a very special place on our journey.
You see we felt harried and disappointed by our inability to camp somewhere isolated, warm and watery for our holiday.  We had to head south due to time constraints towards rain and the cooler weather.  Not happy Jan!
Then we found Lake Indoon... which was not entirely everything we had hoped for... but it was a lovely setting and at that point- anything would have sufficed.
Miracles:
Along came Miracle number 1: Laurie the camp host from the local shire.  Laurie turned up early in the morning after our first night at the lake to collect the camping fees. Such a lovely man...recently back at work after serious operation ... he was full of information and helpfulness. We were made to feel welcome and I started to relax.  Looking at our 4WD and us he told us of a drive we could take to some local caves...he thought we might enjoy it.

Miracle number 2: Laurie's advice was spot on.
After great drive amongst some of the most impressive display of wildflowers we had seen (and many photographs later), we arrived at the Stockyard Gully Caves.
Magical Places
To visit these caves was an awe inspiring experience.
To set the scene- we had been travelling in heat and dust.. the flies at our campsite could have carried us away and we were feeling frazzled and exhausted.
IMG_1018.JPG
So getting out into the bush was definitely the answer... and then to come across this cool oasis, within the earth, was a godsend.
We wandered up the creek to the first cave mouth... we could feel the damp coolness envelope you as we approached,
I could feel the cares and worries melt away as we entered this magical space.  Being a river bed the floor of the cave (now dry) was fairly level and Eic was able to walk easily.
The darkness closed around us and we were surrounded with perfect stillness.
This was a place where we could just ....be...
It was perfect and allowed us to renew ourselves in simple stillness.... we were extremely grateful to Laurie for telling us about the caves.
After a truly blissful time at the caves we returned to our campsite exhausted but happy...ready to make dinner.
Random Acts of Kindness

Miracle number 3: Laurie turned up shortly after our return to the campsite ...you see he had been fishing that morning and stopped by to drop us of a feed... of glorious WA dhufish!!!

We were overwhelmed with Laurie's generosity.  Dhufish is a delicacy and I have not eaten it for many years... and to be given a large fillet for dinner was truly wonderful.

So that night we feasted on the freshest Dhufish dusted in seasoned flour and lightly pan fried with home made chips.  We were in heaven. It was an amazing finish to our camping holiday/retreat.

I learned 2 great lessons on this trip.. that no matter what the circumstance finding the time and space to stop, quieten the mind and appreciate, is life giving and centering

and

that Random acts of Kindness have so much power to transform and uplift another... and receiving such an act is a wonderful experience that you just have to pay it forward.

Moon Haven Happenings
School Holidays, Fairies, Dragons and Facebook

We love the school holidays.. we have so many kids coming to the cottage... and of course they all fall in love with our fairies and dragons as well as the fairy care with its crystals, the kaleidascopes and science kits we keep in our downstairs section... all just for them.

The Fairy Cloud Pond

Moon Haven's Fairy Cloud PondIts wonderful to see the kid's faces when we tell them about our Fairies that live in the fairy cloud pond... and how that if they catch some cloud from the pond and put it in their pocket - then they get to keep the fairy that lives in that cloud in their pocket. They're all ooohhhs and ahhhs and smiles.

Of course, we tell the children, the fairies only stay with good girls and boys and the fairies fly home to Moon haven if they are naughty too many times. The kids immediately straighten up ...smile... and tell us that they're always good! We just chuckle and smile to ourselves and wish their parents luck.
