Glycerine in Soap - Naturally PDF  | Print |  E-mail

thumb_aiabsoap.jpgGlycerine in Soap - Naturally

Soap making  is a truly magical process.  At Moon-Haven we take six superbly nurturing oils, and combine it with caustic soda .  I hear the rapid intake of breath at the mention of Caustic Soda.

Don’t worry there is no Caustic soda in the finished soap - the caustic is totally consumed in the soapmaking process to produce two main components - beneficial glycerine and soap (a sodium salt) .

In natural soapmaking, glycerine is present at around 12% of the total product. Glycerine is a natural wonder of the cosmetic world. In Moon-Haven’s natural soap it moisturises and nurtures the skin.

Now we have all seen so-called glycerine soaps... You know the ones, all transparent and usually very arty.  They are called Melt & Pour soaps (M&P). While they can be fantastic to look at,  they are not as  beneficial for your skin as the natural cold process soaps that we make at Moon-Haven.

Here is a list of some of  the ingredients in M&P soap: Propylene Glycol, Sodium Stearate, Glycerine Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sorbitol, Sodium Myristate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Triethanolamine, Titanium Dioxide .

Which do you think would be gentler on your skin, M&P soap or a natural cold process soap? The choice, as always is yours.
