Bergamot Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Citrus bergamia

Plant Part: Fruit peel of the near ripe fruit of the Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium)

Extraction Method: Cold Pressed

Origin: Italy

Description:  The tree can grow up to four meters high, with star-shaped flowers, and smooth leaves, bearing citrus fruit resembling a cross between an orange and a grapefruit but in a pear-shape. The fruit ripens from green to yellow.

Appearance: Greenish yellow

Common Uses:  Can be used in the treatment of depression, stress, tension, fear, hysteria, infection (all types including skin), anorexia, psoriasis, eczema and general convalescence. Excellent in balancing oily skin types and distressed skin.

 Strength of Aroma: Medium

Blends well with: All Citrus, Black Pepper, Clary Sage, Cypress, Geranium,  Mandarin,  Orange, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Ylang Ylang.

 Aroma: Light citrus scent, sweet , lively and lightly spicey.

 Cautions: Restrict exposure  to sunlight for  12 hours after application to the skin as bergamot can cause photosensitisation.  This is due to the high levels of bergaptene found in normal Bergamot oils. 

Rectified Bergaptene Free Bergamot oil is available which does not have any phototoxic effects. Please note we use this begaptene free bergamot oil in all of our Moon Haven skin care products.
